Poppy
seed is a spice from the opium poppy. Opium
poppy is native to the Middle East and produces
very small slate blue, brown, white or yellow seed
that has a nutty flavor and have a crunchy texture.
Poppy seeds are generally used in
baking in breads, crackers, cakes, pastries or in
salads, especially coleslaw and cream based dressings
and curries. Or you can just sprinkle as a garnish
for any recipe.
