Whole Wheat Apple Brown Betty
For the filling:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Place filling ingredient in a large skillet. Over medium heat, cook down until apple are softened but still hold their shape, stirring occassionally.
While apples cook, slice bread into cubes and place in a food process and pulse until it form crumbs. Pour crumbs into a bowl.
Melt butter in the microwave and pour over crumbs. Stir until crumbs are moistened. Add walnuts, brown sugar and cinnamon and mix.
Place softened apples in a pie dish; top with crumb mixture. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve warm with lite whipped frozen topping that has been thawed if desired.
