Maple Syrup Muffins

all-purpose flour Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly coat 2 - 12 count nonstick muffin tins with cooking oil spray. In a mixing bowl, mix together white and wheat flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda. In another bowl, combine applesauce, yogurt, brown sugar, oil, egg whites, maple extract and walnuts. Stir in flour mixture until just combined. In the bottom of each muffin tin, place 3 slices apple and 1 teaspoon maple syrup. Evenly portion batter into prepared muffin tins.
