Sweet Potato Fries with Dipping Sauce
These lovely fries can be used as an appetizer or a side dish.

Serves 6

Ginger Sesame Sauce:
1/3 cup rice wine vinegar
1/4 cup light soy sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon peeled and finely grated fresh ginger root
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper

Sweet Potato Fries:
1 1/2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 3-inch lengths, about 1/2 inch thick
2 tablespoons canola or vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil; set aside. Whisk together the sauce ingredients into a small bowl. In a large bowl, toss the sweet potatoes with the oil, five-spice powder and salt. Place the sweet potatoes on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes, or until tender and browned, turning once. Serve the fries warm on a platter with the dipping sauce.
